I experienced somewhat of a thrill last weekend as the Tour of California bike race came through my neck of the woods. Now for those of you who are not familiar with the world of professional cycling, this event would be akin to the Dodgers coming to play at your local high school field, or the Lakers playing at your local gym, or Nascar having a race down your street. So, being that I'm a former competitive cyclist, and Lance Armstrong is my favorite athlete, this was a big deal to me. I was there, at the end of Stage 6 with my trusty camcorder to record the historical occasion.
I got to see many of the sport's top stars from all over the world whizz by a few times up close and personal. I stood behind the world's best cycling photographer, Graham Watson, as he got his finish line shots. And, I caught a glimpse of the man himself, Lance Armstrong, as he was there supporting his team, which he no longer rides for, but is still involved as a part owner and advisor. I participated in a charity ride earlier that morning, riding 25 miles through some beautiful back roads in perfect riding weather. It was quite the day... and I had a big smile on my face throughout it all.
I'm already counting the days until next year's race...
